We are looking for great people to join our team of energy consultants. You would be based in our Madrid office, working in our consulting activities in the power modelling sector for Iberia and Latam .

Joining an experienced team from which you will learn the details of the Mexican/Chilean nodal market through long-term market modelling, transaction, bespoke client scenarios, renewable storage and policy analysis among many other client projects.

As part of our Madrid consulting team you will also have the opportunity to collaborate regularly with colleagues around other offices like Bogota, Bangkok, Beijing, Berlin, Dubai, Dusseldorf, Helsinki, London, Oxford, Milan, New York, Oslo, Paris, Stockholm, Vienna, and Zurich.

Often the work is office based but there are many opportunities to travel for shorter trips for client meetings or for entire projects where work is on the client site. With more than 800 consultants across over 20 offices on 5 continents, and supported by 19,000 experts at AFRY in design, engineering and digitalisation, we are driven by the idea of helping our clients find solutions to business-critical questions.

For individuals looking for international experience, we can also offer secondments to other offices.

As a primary responsibility, you will support AFRY consulting activities for a wide range of clients – including major financial investors, the largest Iberian and international utilities, government, and regulatory bodies – through projects carried out mainly in Spain, Portugal and Latin America.

We currently have two open one to support in the Mexican power market and another one to support in the Chilean and Iberian markets, collaborating with both teams. If you are as interested as we are in this dynamic industry, we would love to hear from you.

Below we explain the main skills that we look for in our Analyst and Consultants, you do not need to tick all the boxes, we are looking for great people with a diverse background to grow our Mexican market analysis team

  • A Master’s degree , or higher, in maths, engineering, economics or science related subject
  • 0 to 3 years of proven experience either from university projects or work on topics such as:
  • any energy field (e.g. trading, renewable energies, retail markets, networks etc.)
  • any business practice (e.g. transactions, management consulting, engineering etc.)
  • Good knowledge and a strong interest in electricity markets with a plus on experience in aspects of the Mexican, Chile or Iberian power market such as:
  • Energy trading , PPAs , asset valuations, system planning, market modelling
  • M&A , project financing, plant dynamics, energy economics,
  • Advanced analytical and quantitative skills . We undertake a lot of complex analysis, a good proportion of which is numerical, so we are looking for people with an aptitude for complex quantitative and qualitative analysis, statistics, manipulation of large data and diverse mathematical models. This includes the ability to pay attention to detail and use MS Excel proficiently, understanding programming logic, data bases, visualisation tools (Tableau or PowerBI) and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent team working . All the work we do requires team working. This involves planning the work, supporting the team, anticipating challenges, leading by example, and accountability towards the client (with more Senior support when required).
  • Being fluent in Spanish and English. On the one hand our clients are located in Spanish and non-Spanish speaking countries, and on the other hand our work requires day-to-day collaboration – in English – with other AFRY offices.
  • Writing and communication skills . Report-writing and presenting in public is a core part of our work, therefore we are also looking for the ability to explain complex information in a clear and logical way in English, both in writing and orally.
  • Proactivity and responsibility . You will be working in a commercial environment against budgets and deadlines so you will need to be able to think for yourself, be proactive and have a business-oriented mindset.
  • Passion for energy markets and policies. You have a holistic understanding of electricity or gas market dynamics, sustainability challenges, and energy policies.

Additionally , we highly value:

  • computer programming (e.g. Python, Optimisation languages, VBA etc.)
  • database skills (e.g. MS SQL Server, pSQL or other database systems)
  • knowledge of the Mexican, Chilean or Iberian electricity regulatory framework
  • experience with electricity market modelling software (e.g. BID3, PLEXOS, SDDP)

The salary for this position will be determined according to AFRY's salary framework and objective criteria such as experience, languages, qualifications and skills.
